Makeover Monday || Nightstands

I fell deep into the world of Craigslist the other day. I was looking for tables I could paint and use in my classroom for flexible seating options, because what else do teachers do but spend their own money to try and have nice things… I was reminded how much I loved rehabbing furniture and I was trying to think of the last item I rehabbed, which were these nightstands that I never shared! We owned these wood nightstands for over 4 years before I revamped them. They were a second hand furniture find when we first got married and bought our house. We were in a “crap we spent all our money on a house, now we need furniture” phase and needed nightstands for our room. These nightstands combined with the yellow walls and green carpet in our room were quite an ugly sight, but we all start somewhere, ugly as it may be.

The makeover for these were simple. I used the Chalked spray paint by Rust-Oleum in Aged Gray. I needed 2 cans to cover both of my nightstands. I’ve used and loved chalk paint before but I’ve always mixed my own and brushed it on. The idea of not having to brush the legs on the nightstands and just spray in on won me over. I topped it with their matte protective spray.

I also added new knobs, and boom! So much better right?! I’m getting the itch to pick up more stuff from the side of the road… that’s were I find the best deals!

It has been about a year since I painted them, and the chalk paint is holding up really well. With that being said, I have hopes to replace them because they are just too small. I’m sure we will use them in kid rooms because they really are solid nightstands.

So tell me, what is your favorite piece you have ever redone? Do you double take at furniture on the side of the road?
